Not too long ago Microsoft released update 1 for TFS 2015. You read all about it HERE. A long list of great improvements have been included in this update but there is one I would like to talk about in this blog: Manual testing: Export test outcome.
Being able to export testing results is something that TFS users in the regulated world have been asking for quite some time. I will give you a tour of the feature in the steps below. I do feel that there is value in this feature and it is certainly a step in the right direction, however it may not satisfy all QC requirements when using the exports in official reports. I will have to let you be the judge of that. . .
Start off by opening the TFS 2015 testing hub in web portal and select a test suite that has had test cases recently executed. Then click the ‘Email or print test artifacts‘ button.
On the next dialog you will notice a new option under ‘Test suite’ called ‘Latest test outcome‘. This is the gem you want to have checked off along with any other properties you would like to see in the report.
Now go ahead and click ‘Email’ or ‘Print’ and you will see the latest test run results. In this example test suite I have 2 test cases (one pass and one fail) which you will see in the results below:
In the report itself you will see the latest test outcome at the bottom of each test case. It would be helpful to see the results of each step so we know at a glance where the problem lies with a failed test case. However by clicking the result it will take you right to the results screen.
So there you have it: How to export testing results from TFS 2015 Update 1. Thanks for following along!
